Fencing for Bishop's Cleeve's modern estates beneath Cleeve Hill, including replacement panels and posts, repairs after hillside winds, and side gates and styles that suit newer family homes.
Bishop's Cleeve is a large village north of Cheltenham, and most of it is made up of modern estates lying under Cleeve Hill. The gardens are generally tidy rectangles, the fences are often builder-installed panels, and many are now reaching the age where they start to lean.
SPR Trees and Landscapes covers the village for garden fence replacement, new boundary fencing and repair work. Estate fences often fail for the same few reasons, so we know what to look for. We visit, test the posts, talk through what you want from the garden, and send a free quotation that describes the work step by step, with no vague extras.
Builder-fitted fences are often made with thin timber posts that sit in a shallow hole, and panels that are light and economical. After a decade or so, the posts soften where they meet the soil and the whole run begins to move. The fix is a better foundation. We replace the posts with concrete ones or well-set timber in concrete, fit concrete gravel boards, and put new panels on top. The result is a boundary that can cope with weather for much longer than the original.
Gardens at the foot of a hill can feel wind funnelling down the slope and through gaps between houses. Modern estates also tend to have few large trees to take the edge off a gust. We see snapped posts, panels blown out of their fixings and sections pushed onto a neighbour's side. We repair the damage, but we also advise on prevention, for example using closeboard or heavier panels, or slatted styles that spill wind. If a fence is shared, we suggest you let your neighbour know before we begin.
A side gate is the most used part of an estate fence. A timber gate with a robust frame and a diagonal brace will keep its shape better than a thin ready-made one. We fit strong hinges and a latch that suits your hand. For the fence itself, overlap panels are economical, closeboard is stronger and neater, and slatted designs give a contemporary look that suits modern houses. Picket fencing at the front is fine where boundaries are open-plan, but check any estate rules first.
We cover Bishop's Cleeve and the surrounding towns, including Cheltenham, Winchcombe and Tewkesbury. Because the village is largely modern, you may find that the neighbours' fences are the same age as yours and need work too. If several neighbours are interested, tell us. Quoting jobs together can simplify access and planning. Some newer estates also have covenants on front boundaries, so check yours before choosing a style. Ask SPR for a free quote and honest advice.
We also take on garden fencing work in nearby Cheltenham, Winchcombe, Tewkesbury.

“Jim and Dan did a brilliant job on my 90ft conifer. Its a lot safer now and I have more light in the garden...”
“The boys did an excellent job... pruned my trees back and remove one tree that had split...”
“The guys were prompt & proffesional removed an old ash for me thanks guys”
Many are set in shallow holes in soft timber, with little protection at ground level. Moisture sits at the base and rot follows. Concrete posts or properly set treated timber give far better life.
It can depend on the height, the road and any covenant on your estate. Check your deeds and any estate rules first. We can talk through typical limits, though you should confirm details yourself.
Sometimes, if the panels are still sound and can be removed carefully. Often they are weakened too, so we check before promising. We will say whether it is worth reusing them.
