Fencing for Alcester's old market-town streets, covering replacement panels and posts, repairs after storms, and gates and styles that look right beside timber-framed buildings.
Alcester began as a Roman settlement, and the town still has a core of timber-framed buildings with gardens tucked behind them. Newer streets spread out beyond, so a fencing job in Alcester can mean anything from a short run between old houses to a long boundary along a modern back garden.
SPR Trees and Landscapes takes on garden fence installation and repairs here. We would rather see the fence than guess, so we visit, press on the posts, check the ground and talk about how you use the garden. The free quotation that follows is itemised in plain language, and we point out anything that could change the price on the day.
Most replacement jobs begin the same way: panels that have faded and warped, held up by posts that no longer grip. We lift out the old fence, dig out broken post bases, and set new posts in concrete along a string line. Panels follow, then gravel boards, then caps if you want them. In the older parts of town there can be buried brick, old footings or roots to deal with, and we allow time for that. Afterwards we clear the waste, leaving a straight boundary you can paint or stain as you like.
After a blustery night, the usual picture is a panel lying flat, a post snapped just above the soil, or a whole run leaning towards the neighbour. We deal with all three. Our first step is to make the garden secure, and the second is to work out why it failed. Often it is rot, sometimes it is a missing gravel board letting water creep up, and occasionally the panels are simply too solid for an exposed spot. We then repair or replace, and suggest changes that reduce the risk next time.
Designs worth considering are closeboard for a strong, private boundary, feather edge for a plainer finish, and slatted fencing for a contemporary garden. Waney edge, with its irregular top edge, suits looser, more rural plots. At the front, picket fencing is a traditional choice. Gate decisions come down to use. A side gate for bins and bikes wants a sturdy frame and a solid latch, while a garden gate for the lawn can be lighter. We will measure the opening and advise on a gate that fits properly.
We cover Alcester and nearby places such as Redditch, Studley and Stratford-upon-Avon. Alcester is a Warwickshire market town of Roman origin, with a historic centre of timber-framed buildings, and we respect that when advising on the look of a boundary. Many back gardens here are modest and square, so a neat, durable fence matters more than elaborate detail. If you are not sure whether to repair or replace, send us a message and we will take a look and give free advice.
We also take on garden fencing work in nearby Redditch, Studley, Stratford-upon-Avon.

If the posts are sound and only a few panels are damaged, repair is often sensible. If posts are rotting or leaning along the run, replacement tends to be better value over time. We will tell you which applies.
A gravel board sits along the bottom of the fence so the timber panel is kept clear of soil and standing water. That slows rot. Concrete gravel boards last the longest and are easy to swap if damaged.
We install the fence and can talk through finishes. Most customers apply a preservative or colour themselves after the timber has settled, and we will explain how soon and with what.
