Artificial grass installers working across Hereford, from long Victorian back gardens to open post-war estates, with the groundwork and drainage planned for each plot.
Hereford has a real mix of gardens. Victorian streets near the centre tend to have long, narrow plots, while the suburbs built after the war offer wider lawns with front and rear space. Each calls for a slightly different approach.
We install artificial lawns throughout the city and beyond. Some customers want to stop mowing, some are tired of patchy turf that turns to mud after rain, and some simply want a tidy front garden. Whatever the reason, the same principle applies: the quality of the groundwork decides the result.
On older city plots, the soil has often been worked for generations and may include rubble, tree roots or buried paths. We dig out to the right depth, remove anything that will cause settlement, and compact a graded stone base. Newer suburban lawns are frequently on thinner topsoil over clay, which holds water, so the base needs real thought. A membrane separates soil from stone and discourages weeds, and a bedding layer is levelled by hand. Edging is chosen to suit what surrounds the lawn, whether a brick path, a timber sleeper or a concrete kerb. Done properly, the surface stays flat for years.
Family gardens in Hereford see everything from five-a-side to barbecue evenings. Where use is heavy, we steer people toward a tougher pile with a strong backing and good drainage. Dog-friendly artificial grass should shed liquid quickly, so we avoid backings that hold moisture. For play areas, a slightly softer feel and a consistent base are important, and a shock-absorbing underlay can be added where children climb or jump. We will talk honestly about hot weather, odours and how often the surface needs rinsing, so you know what living with it is like.
The Wye floodplain and heavy clay in places mean some Hereford gardens hold water for longer than others. We study the fall of the land, check where rainwater from roofs and paths goes, and build a stone base that lets water through. In wetter spots we add drainage runs or a soakaway. Once installed, brush the pile occasionally against its lean, remove leaves and debris, and keep sharp objects off it. Moss in damp shaded corners can be treated with a suitable product. Artificial grass repairs are possible too, should a section get damaged.
Our work in Hereford also takes in the nearby towns of Leominster, Ross-on-Wye, Ledbury and Bromyard. In a cathedral city with a river running through it, we pay particular attention to ground conditions and access, since many terraces have narrow side passages. We are happy to look at a garden in person, talk about the options and provide a free quotation. If artificial grass is not the right solution for your plot, we will tell you and suggest an alternative.

“Jim and Dan did a brilliant job on my 90ft conifer. Its a lot safer now and I have more light in the garden...”
“The boys did an excellent job... pruned my trees back and remove one tree that had split...”
“The guys were prompt & proffesional removed an old ash for me thanks guys”
We would not recommend it. Laying over turf leads to dips, weeds and drainage problems as the organic layer rots. The old lawn should be removed and a proper compacted base built in its place.
Yes, many Hereford front gardens suit it, as it needs no mowing and stays neat. Check that any drive crossing or parking is not planned on it, as grass is not made for vehicles.
Small areas can usually be cut out and patched, or seams re-fixed, if matching material is available. Early repair stops damage spreading, so tell us sooner rather than later.
