Artificial grass installation for Bewdley's period terraces and narrow riverside plots, with a firm sub-base, sensible drainage and tidy edges that suit a small Georgian town garden.
Bewdley is a Georgian town on the Severn, and a lot of its gardens are long, thin and tucked behind period terraces. Lawns here often struggle with shade from tall walls, tired soil and constant foot traffic from the back door to the washing line.
That is where an artificial lawn can make sense. We install artificial grass for gardens of every size, and in a small plot the finish matters more than the area. Neat edges, a flat surface and a base that stays put are what make it look right next to old brick and stone.
Access is often the first question in Bewdley. Many terraced houses have a passage or no side route at all, so excavated soil and base stone may need to be moved out by barrow. We plan for that before quoting. The existing lawn is cut out, soft ground is firmed or dug deeper, and a compacted stone base is laid and levelled to falls. A weed membrane goes over it before a thin bedding layer. Edging matters because borders, paths and walls are all close together. Timber, concrete or flexible edging is chosen to match what is already there. Artificial lawn ground preparation is roughly two thirds of the job, and it is the part nobody sees afterwards.
In a small town garden the lawn takes more punishment per square metre than a big suburban one. A family with a dog and a trampoline may use every inch daily. For children's gardens we choose a softer, denser pile and a firm, even base so there are no dips to trip on. For pets, pet-friendly artificial grass with good drainage is the sensible choice, because urine needs to pass through rather than sit on the surface. A quick rinse with a hose helps in warm weather. If you have a dog that digs or a garden that backs onto the flood meadows, tell us and we will adjust the specification.
Drainage depends on what is under the surface. Where the ground near the river stays damp, a thicker free-draining stone layer is worth having, and in some gardens we add a drain outlet or soakaway to take surplus water away. After laying, the pile is brushed up and kiln-dried sand or similar infill may be used to help the blades stand. Maintenance is light: lift leaves with a soft rake or leaf blower, brush against the lean every so often, and treat any moss in shady corners early. Low maintenance artificial lawns still need a little attention, but it is minutes rather than weekends.
We work in Bewdley and the surrounding Severn side, and our teams also cover Kidderminster, Stourport-on-Severn and Tenbury Wells. Bewdley's riverside setting means some gardens sit low and take on surface water after heavy rain, so we always look at where the garden drains to before deciding on levels. Period properties often have lime-rendered or soft brick walls, which we avoid soaking or damaging when excavating next to them. If you are not sure whether your plot suits artificial grass, we are happy to talk it through and give a free quotation after a look at the ground.
We also take on artificial grass installers work in nearby Kidderminster, Stourport-on-Severn, Tenbury Wells.

Often yes, because it does not need sunlight to stay green. Shade can still lead to moss or algae on the surface, so a good base, drainage and an occasional brush matter. We can look at the light and the wall heights before advising.
Yes, it just takes more planning. Spoil and stone are carried through the house or along shared passages, usually in smaller loads. We will talk through protection for floors and walls before work starts.
It can be, provided drainage is dealt with properly. We check how wet the ground gets, use a free-draining base, and add outlets where needed. We will say honestly if a plot looks too wet for a simple installation.
