Garden decking in Stratford-upon-Avon, covering period town houses, plots close to the river and newer estates, with designs and frames chosen to suit each setting.
Stratford-upon-Avon is mainly known for its history, but most of the gardens we see are very ordinary and very useful: a family lawn, a patio that has settled, a back door with an awkward step. The town combines period housing with newer estates, and the river runs through it all.
Timber decking can improve each of those situations. We build decks in Stratford and the villages around it, and we plan every one around the house, the ground and the way you live, instead of repeating the same layout from one garden to the next.
For a period town house, a deck should be restrained: plain boards, a quiet stain and a neat edge. For a newer estate home, there is more freedom, and wide decks with built-in seating or a pergola can give a bare garden some structure. Think about the view from the kitchen window, where the afternoon sun lands and where neighbours can see you. We will talk about board width, finish and whether you prefer a single level or two. Lighting, planters and screens can be designed in from the beginning, and added later if you wish.
Close to the river, the ground can be damp and low, and the frame must cope. We prepare the base for drainage, use free-draining material under the structure and keep timber clear of the soil. On flat plots, a small fall across the deck sheds rainwater. Where the house is above the garden, we plan steps with comfortable rise and depth, and handrails if the drop needs one. Mature trees are common here, so we check roots and shade before choosing the position. Good airflow below is essential, whatever the style.
A damp, leafy garden grows algae quickly, so brush the deck regularly and clear the gaps. Treat the timber when the surface starts to look dry. A few damaged boards are simple to swap. If you see wide sagging, rot at the posts or screws pulling out of soft timber, the frame needs attention. A full rebuild may sound drastic, but putting new boards over rotten joists is a false economy. We will inspect, explain what we find and suggest a repair or replacement that matches the condition of your deck.
We cover Stratford-upon-Avon and the surrounding area, including Alcester, Shipston-on-Stour and Warwick. Period houses, riverside gardens and modern estates all appear in the same few miles, so we start each enquiry by looking at what is actually there. Access can be tight on older streets, and conservation rules may apply to some properties, so it helps to mention anything unusual about your home when you get in touch. We are happy to visit, measure up and talk through the options without any obligation.
We also take on garden decking work in nearby Alcester, Shipston-on-Stour, Warwick.

Yes, with care. We look at drainage and any history of high water, set the frame on firm ground and keep it ventilated. Height and fixings are chosen to suit the conditions.
Not always, but height, size and location matter, and some properties have extra restrictions. We will flag what to check with the local authority before work starts.
Yes. It is easier to plan these with the deck, so cables, posts and fixings are included in the design. Electrical work should be done by a suitably competent person, and we can coordinate with them.
