Large Regency and Victorian houses give Leamington Spa generous but often awkward gardens, and a timber deck can turn a tired terrace or overgrown lawn into proper living space.
Wide tree-lined streets and tall period houses are the signature of this Regency spa town. Behind them are gardens of every sort, from long terrace strips to villa grounds with mature trees and old brick walls. Many have a raised back door, with a drop to the lawn that nobody ever quite resolved.
We build timber garden decking in Leamington Spa that fixes exactly that sort of problem. After a free visit we provide a clear written quotation and honest advice on layout, materials and upkeep. If the garden calls for something different from a deck, such as repaired paving or tree work, we will tell you.
Tall houses often have a back door well above the garden, so a deck can bridge the gap with a broad landing and gentle steps. In a villa garden, you might add a second, lower platform for a table among the planting. We design with scale in mind, since a large house can take a generous deck, whereas a small one can feel cramped. Fascia boards, inset lighting and a sturdy balustrade give a polished look. Hardwood and composite boards suit these larger projects, while good softwood remains a sensible, economical choice for others.
A raised door sill means the deck, or at least its upper level, needs a firm structure and often a guard rail. We use sturdy posts on sound footings, braced frames and joists sized for the span. Steps are wide, with consistent rises and good grip. Old brick walls, cellar lights and drains around period houses must be respected, so we plan the frame to leave access and ventilation. Mature trees may have roots close to the surface, and we dig carefully around them to avoid damage, drawing on our tree experience to protect them.
Gardens under mature trees get leaf fall, shade and drips, all of which keep decking damp. Regular sweeping and cleaning, plus a proper finish applied when boards are dry, keep it looking sound. Check posts, brace points and the junction with the house wall each year. Replace worn boards as needed. A raised deck with weakened posts or rusty connectors needs a more serious response, and in those cases we recommend a rebuild instead of cosmetic fixes. We can inspect your existing deck and give you plain advice, plus a written quotation for whichever option you prefer.
Leamington Spa is a Regency town with many large period houses, terraced rows and villa gardens, and we find that its plots vary in depth, height and shade. Parking on busy residential streets can be tricky, so we organise deliveries and working hours with that in mind. We also cover Warwick and Stratford-upon-Avon, so you are well within our normal area. Get in touch to arrange a free visit, and we will look at the garden together and talk through your options.
We also take on garden decking work in nearby Warwick, Stratford-upon-Avon.

“Jim and Dan did a brilliant job on my 90ft conifer. Its a lot safer now and I have more light in the garden...”
“The boys did an excellent job... pruned my trees back and remove one tree that had split...”
“The guys were prompt & proffesional removed an old ash for me thanks guys”
Yes, that is a common reason for building one. A broad landing at door level with steps down gives a safe, usable platform. The height decides what guard rail is needed, which we explain on site.
They can be, so we avoid cutting major roots and often use pad footings that sit lightly on the ground. We assess the trees near your deck and suggest a layout that protects them.
It can be, with grippy boards and regular cleaning. Pruning back overhanging growth helps the timber dry. We can advise on both aspects during the visit.
