Garden decking in Kidderminster, built to suit narrow Victorian terrace plots and larger suburban estate gardens, with solid frames and neat finishing throughout.
Kidderminster is the largest town in the north-west of the county, and its housing falls into two broad camps. Victorian terraces tend to come with long, thin yards or gardens, often with side access that is barely wider than a doorway. Suburban estates give you wider but plainer plots.
Each needs a different approach. In a terrace garden the deck has to earn every square metre, while a suburban garden can take a more generous layout. We build timber decking throughout the town, and we plan the job around the access and space you actually have.
In a long narrow terrace garden, one option is a deck running the width of the plot just beyond the back door, with a clear path past it to the rest of the garden. It gives you somewhere to eat outside without losing all your grass. On a suburban estate, a deck can be moved further out to catch afternoon sun, and combined with a border or low screen for privacy. We talk about board width, finish and whether you want built-in seating or a planter edge. Simple shapes usually look better and cost less to maintain than anything fussy.
The frame is what matters. We use properly spaced joists, secure footings and a gap beneath the boards for air. Terrace gardens often drop away from the back door, sometimes by a surprising amount, which means steps need planning rather than improvising. Short flights with a consistent rise feel safer and look tidier. Where there is a larger drop, a handrail is sensible, and we will discuss the options that fit your garden. Old paving, cracked concrete and buried rubble are not unusual behind older houses, and we check them before deciding how to support the deck.
A sheltered terrace yard can stay damp, so keep the boards brushed and clear of leaf litter. Algae builds up on shaded timber and becomes slippery, so deal with it early. If one or two boards are damaged, replacing them is quick. If many are loose or splitting, check the joists beneath. Frames that have been in constant contact with wet ground tend to fail first at the post bases. When that happens, replacement with a better-ventilated structure will outlast further repairs, and we can talk you through what the options would involve.
We cover Kidderminster and neighbouring places, including Bewdley, Stourport-on-Severn and Bromsgrove. The mix of Victorian terraces and suburban estates in the town means no two enquiries are quite the same, and access can be a deciding factor. Where there is only a narrow side passage, materials are carried through by hand and boards are cut to size on site. If you are planning other garden work at the same time, such as tree work, fencing or paving, we can look at everything together and sequence it sensibly. Just describe your garden and we will arrange a visit.
We also take on garden decking work in nearby Bewdley, Stourport-on-Severn, Bromsgrove.

Yes. We carry materials by hand along narrow passages or through the house if you agree, and cut boards to size on site. It takes a little more planning but rarely stops a job.
Enough for a table and chairs with space to move around them, while leaving some lawn or planting. We usually sketch a couple of layouts at the visit so you can see how much garden is left.
Yes, if air can move beneath it and you keep the surface clean. Shade makes algae more likely, so regular brushing matters, and a textured board surface helps with grip.
