Straightforward hedge cutting, trimming and conifer reduction for Studley, where rows of 20th-century homes depend on front hedges and back-garden screens for tidiness and privacy.
Most of Studley was built in the twentieth century, and the gardens follow a pattern: a front hedge, a drive, and a back garden bordered by a mix of fencing and planting. When the hedges are neat the whole road looks good; when two or three get away from their owners, it shows. Our visits are straightforward and priced fairly for the size of the job.
That makes regular, reasonably priced maintenance worthwhile, and it is what we offer in Studley. We cut and shape hedges, reduce overgrown ones, and advise honestly on whether a tired hedge is worth saving. If you are tired of hauling a ladder around every summer, a scheduled visit may suit you. You will always know what to expect from us in advance.
Estate hedges are usually privet, Lonicera, laurel or a row of small conifers, and all can be kept smart with timely cuts. Privet and Lonicera grow quickly and look smartest when clipped several times through spring and summer; laurel tolerates fewer visits but needs careful hand cutting to avoid ragged leaves. We trim the top level, taper the sides slightly, and check for dead patches that can be cut out. Because front hedges on a shared road are on show, we try to match the height of the neighbouring ones where that makes sense.
Estate planting from decades ago frequently includes Leylandii, which can reach well over house height if left alone. They produce deep shade and can crowd out the lawn. Reducing them is possible if green growth remains down their sides; we cut in measured stages and do not take off more than the plant can bear. If the hedge has become top-heavy or bare, we will describe the choices openly, which may include replacement with something that stays low. A smaller mixed hedge can also be less work for you in the long run.
Houses are fairly close together on most Studley roads, so one overgrown hedge can annoy several neighbours. We advise telling the people next door when we plan to start, and offering to trim their side too if they would like it done. Cuttings are collected as we go and removed, and we blow or sweep the path and drive so there is no mess left on the pavement. For larger reductions that produce a lot of material, we agree beforehand how it will be loaded and where the vehicle will stand.
Studley is a large Warwickshire village close to Redditch with mainly twentieth-century housing, so most gardens are of a fairly standard size and the hedges are shaped by that. We are happy to work in the village and around it, and we also cover Redditch and Alcester. If you manage several properties or would like a neighbour's hedge done on the same visit, mention it when you call; combined jobs often make the visit more worthwhile. A description of the hedge type and length is usually enough to get a sensible estimate.
We also take on hedge maintenance work in nearby Redditch, Alcester.

“Jim and Dan did a brilliant job on my 90ft conifer. Its a lot safer now and I have more light in the garden...”
“The boys did an excellent job... pruned my trees back and remove one tree that had split...”
“The guys were prompt & proffesional removed an old ash for me thanks guys”
Usually two or three times between spring and early autumn if you want a sharp finish. Less often is fine if you accept a slightly softer line. If you prefer a looser, softer look, once or twice may do, though it takes a little longer each time because there is more growth to remove.
Yes, if the owner agrees. It saves a second visit and the hedge ends up even on both faces. We would normally need their permission first. Cuts are quicker when both sides are accessible, and the result looks more balanced from either garden.
It depends on the plant. Some species reshoot from a hard cut, others do not. We will check each section and tell you honestly whether the patches are likely to fill in. Species that regrow from old wood, such as privet and laurel, usually fill in; most conifers will not, and gaps may need planting.
