Garden brickwork across Warwick, a historic castle town of period streets and modern suburbs, including boundary walls, steps, raised beds, pillars and careful repointing of older brick.
Warwick is a historic castle town in Warwickshire, with lanes of period houses around the centre and modern suburbs spreading beyond. Brick is common here, and many gardens have walls that have stood for a century or more. Both types of garden gain from a calm survey first, so we can say what is sound, what is not, and what could wait another year or two.
We build and repair garden brickwork across Warwick. Some jobs involve fresh walls and raised beds on newer plots, while others are about keeping an older wall standing. The first step is working out which kind of project you have and what the wall actually needs. We try to leave a site tidy, protect lawns and borders where we can, and keep you informed about timing as the work progresses.
Warwick's older streets contain plenty of brick garden walls, some of them very old. These deserve a careful approach. If a wall is in a conservation area or attached to a listed building, you may need consent for changes, so check before starting. Repairs use mortar that matches the original in strength and appearance, and rebuilt sections reuse the old bricks where they are sound. New sections tie in neatly. Garden Wall Repairs on a historic wall are about keeping the character as well as the structure. Reused bricks keep the wall's colour consistent with its neighbours.
Newer parts of Warwick have regular plots with straightforward boundaries, and brick is a handy material for improving them. A raised brick bed gives planting depth over thin soil, a low wall can tidy a patio edge, and steps help where the house sits above the garden. Brick Garden Steps are usually built with consistent risers and a slight tread fall so rain runs off. Our approach is simple: a sound footing, decent drainage and bricks that suit your house, so the work still looks right years from now. Pillars on driveways are better protected from vehicle knocks.
Warwick is not especially hilly, but plenty of gardens have level changes, whether a raised terrace, a bank beside a drive or a drop at the back fence. Retaining walls hold that ground, and need proper footings and drainage. Pillars and gate posts add an entrance feature and a sturdy fixing point for gates. Heavier gates call for deeper bases, and tall pillars need steel or careful bonding. We explain the choices and give you realistic expectations about what a wall of a given height will involve. We advise on the safest route when access is awkward.
Warwick sits beside Leamington Spa, and the two towns share a lot of housing stock, from period villas to later suburbs. We also cover Stratford-upon-Avon, where timber-framed and brick buildings sit side by side. Because Warwick has so many protected buildings, we always ask early whether any restrictions apply. Narrow streets and walled yards can make access tricky, so we plan deliveries and storage in advance. A free visit lets us look at the wall, measure up and give a straightforward explanation of what is needed. Keep an eye out for ivy roots, which loosen mortar and bricks.
We also take on garden brickwork work in nearby Leamington Spa, Stratford-upon-Avon.

You may need consent, especially for visible walls. Contact the council first to find out. We can work to approved details and explain what is practical for the type of brick and mortar. Shared walls are common in older streets, so ownership should be checked first.
Usually a softer lime-based mix, matched to the original in colour and strength. Modern hard cement can damage old bricks and trap moisture, so we avoid it on historic walls. Cracks wider than a pencil mark need attention soon. It is not a job for DIY cement mixes.
If the wall is straight with sound bricks, repair or repoint. If it leans, bulges or has failed footings, rebuilding is safer. We inspect it and give a plain recommendation. Take photographs before and after for your own records. We do not push for larger work than is needed.
