Professional Tree Surgery in Kidderminster

SPR Trees & Landscapes provides professional tree surgery in Kidderminster for homeowners, landlords and businesses needing help with established, overgrown or unwanted trees.

In Kidderminster, tree surgery is often about reclaiming usable garden space while keeping established trees at a more manageable size.

With over 15 years' experience, SPR can help with everything from routine pruning through to larger reductions, complete tree removals and stump grinding. Every job is quoted after seeing the tree, because access and what sits underneath it change the work as much as the tree itself does.

Tree Pruning Kidderminster

Where a tree is doing a job — screening a window, a road or a neighbouring building — pruning has to be planned around that job rather than around the tree. Taking the wrong side out is how people accidentally lose the privacy they were paying to keep, so it is worth saying at quotation what the tree is there for.

Tree Reduction Kidderminster

A reduction on a screening tree is a balancing act: enough off to solve the size problem, not so much that you can suddenly see the road. It is worth walking the garden with whoever is quoting and pointing at what you do not want to see afterwards.

Tree Removal Kidderminster

Removing a tree that is screening something is a decision people occasionally regret, so it is worth checking what the view will be afterwards before committing. Where the screening matters, reduction or replacement planting is usually the better route.

Stump Grinding Kidderminster

If the plan is to replant where the tree stood, the stump has to come out first — and grinding leaves chip in the hole, which is fine under lawn but should be dug out before anything new goes in that spot.

Large Trees & Conifers Kidderminster

The trouble with a large conifer is that it gives no warning. It looks the same as it did last year, right up until the point where the only live foliage is a thin shell at the outside and the interior is bare brown wood. At that stage a reduction cannot go anywhere useful, and the honest advice is usually to decide between living with it and taking it out.

Protected Trees & Conservation Areas in Kidderminster

Kidderminster has several conservation areas rather than one — Blakebrook, Church Street, Green Street and Vicar Street — so it is worth checking which, if any, your road falls into rather than assuming there is a single town-centre boundary. If a tree stands in a conservation area, six weeks' written notice has to be given to Wyre Forest District Council before work starts. That is a notice rather than an application — there is no approval to wait for beyond the six weeks. The council uses the time to decide whether to protect the tree with a Tree Preservation Order; if it does not, the work can go ahead and the authorisation lasts two years.

A tree already covered by a Tree Preservation Order is different again. That needs a formal consent application to Wyre Forest District Council, normally decided within eight weeks, and hearing nothing does not count as permission. Cutting down, topping, lopping or uprooting a protected tree without consent is a criminal offence, and not having checked is not a defence. Checking is free and takes one phone call, so it is worth doing before you book rather than after.

There is a size exemption worth knowing about. In a conservation area, trees under 75mm in stem diameter measured 1.5m above the ground fall outside the notice requirement, and the threshold rises to 100mm where the work is thinning to help other trees grow. That covers genuinely small stems — it will not cover anything you would call a tree surgery job.

Worth knowing if you read about it in the news: local government reorganisation was confirmed in July 2026, and Wyre Forest District Council will be replaced by North Worcestershire Council. That does not happen until 1 April 2028, and elections in May 2027 will generate coverage well before anything actually changes. Until vesting day, Wyre Forest District Council is still the authority to contact about a protected tree or a conservation area.

Tree Surgery Before Landscaping Kidderminster

Where the garden is being redesigned, sequencing matters more than most people expect. Trees down first, stumps out while the ground is still open, then clearance, fencing and turf. Doing it in that order costs less than doing it in the order the trees became annoying.

Tree Surgery & Hedge Maintenance Kidderminster

Hedge maintenance and tree surgery come from the same company here, which matters most on boundaries where it is not obvious where the hedge stops and the trees start. Both can be looked at on the same visit.

Do I need permission for tree work in Kidderminster?

It depends on the tree. If it has a Tree Preservation Order you need written consent from Wyre Forest District Council. Wyre Forest District Council — that is the local planning authority for tree matters. It is due to be replaced by North Worcestershire Council on 1 April 2028, but until then nothing changes.
