Patio slabbing in Cirencester for the town's stone terraces and cottages as well as its newer estates, matching the materials to the age and style of each property.
Cirencester is a Cotswold market town built largely in stone, with period streets around the centre and plenty of newer estates beyond. A patio that suits a Georgian townhouse is not the same as one for a 1990s semi, and the town offers both.
We start by looking at your house and boundaries, then choose a palette that respects them. In older streets that usually means natural stone and a restrained layout; in newer areas there is more freedom to be bold with porcelain, mixed sizes or contrasting borders.
Walled town gardens can be quite formal, with straight lines, symmetrical beds and a clear axis from the back door. Paving in a similar spirit, such as square-cut limestone laid in a simple grid or a random-size pattern, looks right. Joints are kept narrow and tidy. If an existing patio has historic character, we try to retain or reuse material. Where there are cellars, vaults or old drains beneath the garden, we proceed with care and discuss any surprises with you as soon as they arise.
Newer homes often have large glazed doors opening to a small paved area, and the temptation is to leave it as is. A wider terrace with a clear step down to the lawn can transform the use of the garden. Porcelain gives a seamless look from kitchen floor to terrace, and sandstone adds a softer contrast. Block paving is appropriate for driveways, and we can combine it with a stone border to make a frontage feel more finished.
Cotswold winters bring hard frosts, and any trapped water will lift joints and crack slabs. We lay a well-compacted, free-draining sub-base and set falls so water leaves quickly. Where limestone soils sit shallow, digging can be harder and we allow for it. On older properties we check the damp-proof course level, vents and downpipes before fixing the final height. Edging is supported on a concrete haunch where traffic is heavy, avoiding movement later.
We work in Cirencester and the villages around it, including Northleach and Stroud. Central streets are narrow and parking can be tight, so we plan deliveries and keep our site tidy. If your house is listed or in a conservation area, check that paving and boundary work are allowed before ordering anything. We offer free quotes, explain choices in plain terms, and are happy to adapt a design to a modest budget.
We also take on patio slabbing work in nearby Northleach, Stroud.

“Jim and Dan did a brilliant job on my 90ft conifer. Its a lot safer now and I have more light in the garden...”
“The boys did an excellent job... pruned my trees back and remove one tree that had split...”
“The guys were prompt & proffesional removed an old ash for me thanks guys”
Garden paving is often fine, but listed buildings and some conservation settings have extra rules. We can raise likely concerns, though confirmation should come from the local council.
Matching or complementing indoor tiles outdoors gives a seamless feel, and porcelain makes this easy. A contrasting natural stone can be equally attractive. Samples help decide.
We allow extra time for excavation and adjust the depth of the base. Where digging is hard, we may raise the patio slightly instead, as long as levels and drainage still work.
