Age of the material is another factor worth weighing honestly. Older concrete flags or dated coloured slabs from decades past can look tired even when structurally fine, and no amount of cleaning will bring their appearance up to modern expectations. In that situation, replacing the whole patio with a material you actually like, rather than extending something you were never fully happy with, is often the choice people are glad they made a few years down the line.
